The Florida third grade retention law has been in place since 2004, and there are three things a parent show know:Third Grade Retention is mandatory if your child does not either pass the third grade English Language Assessment or meet one of the Good Cause Exemptions
Opting out of the third grade English Language Assessment means your child must meet one of the Good Cause Exemptions. These are all harder to meet for the struggling student. For a student who is at risk for third grade retention, we recommend parents fully understand the risks before optiong out.
