Does Your Smart Struggling Child Remember Places Visited, Even From Years Ago?
When a smart struggling child like Matthew walks into our lives, the first three questions we ask his parents are:
- Does your child remember places visited, even from years ago?
- Does your child learn best when he sees and experiences information?
- Is your smart struggling child a lot smarter than present results would indicate?
There are at least three very different ways to look at a smart struggling child
- Is it a child with dyslexia, learning disabilities, reading disability or a related challenge
- Is the child a visual learner, whose crime is he or she does not learn the way schools teach students how to read
- Are both true — and could dyslexia be defined as difficulty learning to read the way your child is taught and the child learns best when he or she sees and experiences information

Half the people I give this to see a wine glass and the other half see two faces. In fact, both are true.
Your Smart Struggling Child May Be Able to Go From Stress to Success in Months Not Years
Matthew was a classic case — this smart struggling child was a visual learner, he skipped words and lines when reading and he often lost focus. The private school he attended suggested to his parents that they find another school for 4th grade. He would just not be able to keep up with their tough curriculum. This is a problem facing many smart struggling children, as the demand for private school rises every year.
The good news is that with the right help:
- Being taught to his strengths
- Having his attention and visual processing improved and
- Having his parents learn how to be the coach and advocate he needed
Matthew was able to improve his reading comprehension 3 grade levels within a year and stay at the same school and do very well
