Does Your Child Have Dyslexia or is Your Child a Visual Learner
Over the last few years, dyslexia has become a very common diagnosis. We did exactly that with our child but even after one dyslexia treatment after another — her reading comprehension was still well below grade level. Then her mother Mira Halpert discovered she was a visual learner, who learns best when she sees and experiences information. With what has become known as the 3D Learner Program (R), our daughter improved her reading comprehension 4.2 grade levels in 7 months. Over the last 20 years, we have helped a couple of thousand visual learners go from Stress to Success with a strength-based program.
At 3D Learner we focus on the strengths of the visual learner
Most students with dyslexia are also a visual learner.
This infographic describes strengths and weaknesses of people who may be diagnosed with dyslexia, and who we label as a visual learner.
At 3D Learner, we empower students by calling them visual learners, because of the unique abilities and creative talent they possess.
It is true that there are intensities of abilities and weaknesses, but over the past 20 years we have learned that embracing students’ innate abilities and teaching them how to use them to be successful in learning and in school, is far more engaging and successful.
Identifying those strengths is the first thing that we do. Having students discover and understand HOW they learn best is a journey. A journey WE EXPLORE together. As parents, we need to be an integral part of this journey to support and help our kids succeeds.
Bobby was excited to learn the word “sequence”, be able to visualize the order of letters of the word and associate what it meant with this picture. His ‘aha’ moment came when he reported how easy it was to learn!
3D Learners need to build and experience language. Words are not just sounds; they are pictures, meanings and emotions! Many words have multiple meanings, and observing students make those connections makes learning fun for them. Sometimes for the 1st time.
Learning to read is a complicated process and a relative new skill in human evolution. 3D Learners are visual learners. They “see” the big picture. They are what the author Thom Hartmann refers to as “The hunters”. They visually scan their world and look for patterns. They like to create their own rules.
