Success by Third Grade for Your Child

Success by Third Grade and Avoid Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia and Special Education

Success by third grade was not in sight — the parents were worried about third grade retention.

Scott was a 2nd grade.  His parents tried to initiate a request for special education services, but they were told their child had to first complete the Response to Intervention Process (not, this was not true – and we provide guidance at The RTI Trap)

They went to a psychologist who diagnosed Scott with dyslexia and learning disabilities.

The psychologist correctly said that Special Education services might not be the answer, and that either a private school that specialized in children with dyslexia and learning disabilities, or a specialized program for dyslexic students might be the answer.

Mom heard about 3D Learner from a friend and dad found it on line — both in the same day.

They liked the focus on Success by Third Grade — especially with our focus on dramatically improving reading comprehension, the love of reading and self-esteem.  Dad was also interested, because we help good athletes become much better athletes and we help struggling athletes become good athletes.  Dad always wanted a son to play baseball with, but Scott really struggled with baseball and preferred video games.  Dad also liked our focus on …

Success by Third Grade Beats Third Grade Retention

When they did our Success Assessment at 3D Learner dad was not surprised that his son learned differently or had an attention issue.  The eye-teaming issue surprised him.

Dad asked, “Could that contribute to his problems catching a ball”

My answer was quick — “Absolutely”  It turned out that Scott was what we call a Bulls Eye Kid — learns differently with an attention and eye-teaming issue — which is true for over half our students.

Success by 3rd Grade

Success by third grade can be accomplished            by capitalizing on the student’s strengths,          while addressing his or her challenges

Dad asked why the schools neither special education or private schools used the 3D Learning approach or something similar.  We had to admit part of that was our fault.

Dad was open to doing what was best for his kid, and asked, “Can you help my child succeed without ever needing special education services?”

We can never guarantee this, but we indicated that with a 115 IQ, which puts his son at the 85th percentile, it was highly likely we could.

We actually did better than that

Success by Third Grade Gets Child Into Above Average Reading Group and Improves His Baseball Skills too.

Scott, like most of our above average students, was able to get back to grade level within 3 months and to scores at the 84th percentile in 3rd grade.

Even better, he now loves to read, his baseball was really good and his self-esteem had soared.

Mom was still getting used to the fact that homework time was cut in half and her time was cut to 20 minutes, when it used to be a two hour grind.

Why Success By Third Grade Beat Special Education and Later Interventions

There are several reasons why Success by Third Grade with a private effort beats special education and later interventions, including:

1-  It is easier to helping a 2nd or 3rd grader versus an older student

2-  It avoids the third grade retention risk

3-  It saves the countless days of homework time and stress

4-  It avoids the special education world where the techniques are not as powerful, there in not one on one or small group interventions and they do not address the attention, visual processing and anxiety challenges that are often present.  Their results are also nowhere near as good as ours or other strong programs

5-  When one waits, it often takes longer, since the student has to unlearn some of what they are being taught

6-  If you find a program that teaches the way your child learns, it is far likely to be more engaging and help your child to love learning

7-  If is far easier to boost self-esteem in younger students, versus those that have had problems for years.

and it improves sports kills, while allowing the child to have the time to do fun things
