Homework help is easy to ask for and difficult to get.
Mary was really frustrated. Homework was taking 2.5 to 3 hours for her daughter. The assignment was often not written down in her planner, despite an agreement with the school. The IEP, or Individualized Education Program, stated that the teacher would insure the assignment was written correctly.
That happened for a week and then it stopped
We met with the school. We proposed a similar goal, but with a twist
- The teacher would sign-off daily
- The parent would then countersign that the assignment was done
- The parent would then make sure the assignment was then put in the same spot every day
The Law of Reciprocity is what made this Homework Help tip work. It reduced her daughter’s homework time down a half hour, but Mary wanted more.
Homework Help with a Visual Schedule, Exercise & a Calmer Parent
Mary then asked, are there other no cost Homework Tips you can offer. We discussed three that can help in virtually every case:
- Use a visual schedule. Make sure to include brain breaks, and a positive consequence when the work is done on time
- Add some cross mid-line exercises before and during homework time
- Stay calm. Your child might get frustrated and lose it for many reasons. It might be a tough assignment, a poorly worded question or something that happened at school. If you escalate the situation, it often gets worse. Sometimes much worse. When you stay calm, your child is likely to calm down. Then it would be good time to do some cross mid-line exercises
